Washington, D.C. 2004
CALL FOR PAPERS
ISCoRE's web site: http://www.ou.edu/is-core/
After the success of the inaugural SIG CoRE workshop in 2001 and two subsequent successful workshop programs, we're happy to announce our 4th Annual workshop, which will take place in the nation's capital. This year's workshop will feature invited presentations by Gerry DeSanctis, Catherine Cramton and other well known scholars in cognitive research.
The objective of the workshop is to facilitate intellectual exchange on current cognitive research in IS of the highest caliber. The organizing committee seeks papers drawing on theory and methods from the cognitive and psychological sciences to address research questions in Information Systems.
IMPORTANT DATES
Submissions due: September 12, 2004
Acceptance Notification: October 31, 2004
Extended abstracts for distribution to participants: November 14, 2004
Workshop: Sunday, December 12, 2004
FAST TRACKING TO JAIS
This year we have made special arrangements with the Journal of the Association for Information System (JAIS, http://jais.isworld.org),
to fast-track the best workshop papers to the journal. The electronic nature of JAIS provides for fast publication for accepted papers. Please keep in mind that fast tracking a paper to JAIS does not guarantee publication and that the paper will still be reviewed following JAIS's review process and standards. However, such a
relationship ensures that the workshop can provide a promising avenue for
your best work. The best workshop papers will be first reviewed by one or more IS CoRE program chairs and members, who will make revision recommendations to help improve the chance of the paper being accepted in JAIS. Once the revisions are made, they will be forwarded to JAIS. A Senior Editor from JAIS will work with one or more IS CoRE program chairs as editors of the papers and the papers will be reviewed following JAIS' review process.
FORMAT
The workshop is intended as a showcase of leading cognitive research in information systems. There are no separate tracks or concurrent presentations. The format of the workshop is designed to enable open and constructive discussions of the research, in a spirit of collegial community-building. The workshop will run for the full day (tentatively 9:00AM - 5:30pm ). A small fee (TBA) will be charged to cover costs. Special discounts will be offered to PhD students and attendees who also enroll in the SIG HCI pre-ICIS workshop. We strongly encourage
you to consider attending both workshops, which complement each other very well.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Authors should submit full papers. The body of the paper is limited to 8,000 words, including tables and figures, but excluding references and the abstract. Authors must also include an abstract not exceed 300 words.
This workshop is intended to help authors improve their work from relevant feedback that will be provided by peers, with the objective of improving the chances of publication of the respective manuscript. As such, we encourage authors to submit completed papers that are under preparation for submission to an academic journal.
Papers are to be submitted electronically to alberto@american.edu, with the subject line "CORE Submission" and with copies sent to: galletta@katz.pitt.edu and kishore.sengupta@insead.edu. Acrobat pdf submissions are preferred, Word submissions are also acceptable (please indicate version).
IMPORTANT: Submissions will be double-blind reviewed. So: (1) please include on the first page only the paper title with all author names, affiliations and contact information (e-mail address is sufficient); (2) include a second page with only the paper title and abstract, without author names; (3) include the paper title on the third page, without author names; and (4) please ensure that you remove your name from the file properties before you submit your manuscript.
The organizing committee will participate in and coordinate the review process. All authors agree to provide timely reviews of at most 2 other submissions, if requested.
EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
This workshop is a forum to present and discuss papers to help authors publish their papers in top academic journals. Therefore, proceedings will not be published. At the same time, authors of accepted papers will be required to submit an extended abstract which we will distribute to all participants. The purpose of this extended abstract is to highlight key aspects of the papers presented for discussion. The abstract should include a sythesis of the theoretical background, methods and findings of the full paper. The extended abstract should not exceed 2 pages of single-spaced text. To standardize the appearance of all extended abstracts, they need to comply with the following format: title, authors, affiliations and e-mail addresses on the top of the first page; single-spaced, 10pt Times Roman font, and 1 inch margins all around.
TOPICS
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
The unifying theme of these topics is the premise that understanding human cognition is a critical component to the successful design, implementation and use of information systems.
