CALL FOR PAPERS

IS-CORE 2002
The Second Annual IS Cognitive Research Workshop
15 December 2002, Barcelona, Spain (Pre-ICIS)

After the roaring success of the inaugural Cognitive Research
Workshop (40+ participants) in New Orleans we're planning for similar
success in Barcelona. This year's workshop will feature invited
presentations from Izak Benbasat (University of British Columbia) and
Sirrka Jarvenpaa (University of Texas at Austin).

The objective of the workshop is to facilitate intellectual exchange
on current cognitive research in IS of the highest caliber. The
organizing committee seeks papers drawing on theory and methods from
the cognitive and psychological sciences to address research
questions in Information Systems.

IMPORTANT DATES
Submissions due: September 1, 2002.
Acceptance Notification: October 15, 2002.
Workshop: Sunday, December 15, 2002

FORMAT AND COSTS:
The workshop is intended as a showcase of leading cognitive research
in information systems. There are no separate tracks or concurrent
presentations. The format of the workshop is designed to enable open
and constructive discussions of the research, in a spirit of a
collegial community building.

The workshop will run for the full day (tentatively 10:00AM -
5:30pm). A modest fee (yet to be finalized) will be charged to cover
costs.

SUBMISSIONS:
Authors should submit full papers if available. Alternatively,
extended abstracts of approximately 2,500 words may be submitted.
While the work in an extended abstract may be less developed than a
full paper, the abstract should not focus simply on methods and
results, but also provide adequate attention to theory.

Papers are to be submitted electronically to mdavern@stern.nyu.edu,
cc'ing lwenham@stern.nyu.edu (with subject line 'CORE Submission').
Acrobat .pdf submissions are preferred, Word submissions are also
acceptable (please indicate version).

Submissions will be double blind reviewed. The organizing committee
will participate in and coordinate the review process. All authors
agree to provide timely reviews of at most 2 other submissions, if
requested.

No proceedings will be published -- the workshop is not a forum for
final publication.

TOPICS
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

- Decision support systems
- Collaborative work
- Cognitive perspectives on knowledge management
- Human behavior in information environments
- Cognitive processes of programmers/systems developers
- Design of user learning and training interventions
- Human-computer interaction/human factors

The unifying theme of these topics is the premise that understanding
human cognition is a critical component to the successful design and
implementation of information systems.

See you in Barcelona!
